almost 4 years ago – Sat, Apr 25, 2020 at 06:38:20 PM

With our second Barons' War Kickstarter going live this Sunday, the 26th April 2020, now seems the appropriate time for our final update here in readiness to switch our focus over to the home of our new project.

As it stands there are currently 500 people following the Barons' War 2 waiting for notification of go live.  This is just amazing, thank you if you are one of the 500!

As well as a FREE set of rules for everyone who backs the project, either digital or printed, we are now able to add something else thanks to Kieran, one of our Prince Louis backers. Kieran has offered his excellent foot sergeant sculpted by Paul Hicks to help the new project succeed,  and we have decided to reward early backers.  Those who back Barons' War 2 within the first 24 hours for at least one pack will have this exclusive miniature added to their pledges.

Kieran's Exclusive Foot Sergeant Miniature

And finally, here is a graphic showing all 10 packs we are looking to fund, The Retinue deal is the simplest way to back the BW2 Kickstarter giving you one of every pack.  You can also back for resin too, which is The Rebel pledge, where we have a total of 30 sets.

The one of everything retinue deal - definitely the way to go.

As we sign out of here we wanted to wish a huge thank you to everyone who backed the initial Barons' War project it was a bigger and better than either Paul or I had ever imagined it would be and this was solely down to all of you.  We really hope you will follow us over to our second Kickstarter and help us to make that a huge success too.

The Barons' War 2 - The Details (26th April 2020)
almost 4 years ago – Thu, Apr 16, 2020 at 07:10:11 PM

The Barons' War 2 Kickstarter has been approved and available to follow ahead of launch

With our second Barons' War campaign accepted by Kickstarter, Paul and I are putting the finishing touches to another labour of love ready to go live on Sunday the 26th April 2020.  As you have already graciously supported us, we think you deserve to be the first to see what we have planned.

This time around we will be bringing both the miniatures that were unanimously requested during the exit survey which were crossbowmen, sergeants and levy, alongside others we wanted to include such as mounted knights with hand weapons and foot knights with two-handed weapons.

Like many miniature packs, The Barons’ War range will be packed to work well for games like Saga and Lion Rampant.  However, due to the popularity of the first Kickstarter, Andy has also started on a ruleset of his own and agreed to make an A5 alpha version of these available for every backer either as a digital or printed copy depending on the level that you back.

An A5 alpha version of these rules will be made available for every backer

We believe that the miniatures provided in the 10 packs listed below represent those requested during the exit survey, and as luck would have it create a good force for the rules we will be giving away:

Infantry

• Foot Knights with 2H weapons

• Foot Sergeants with hand weapons

• Crossbowmen 1

• Crossbowmen 2

• Crossbowmen 3

• Levy 1

• Levy 2

Three of the initial ten packs for The Barons' War 2 campaign

Cavalry

• Mounted Knights with hand weapons

• Mounted Sergeants with hand weapons 1

• Mounted Sergeants with hand weapons 2

Mounted Knights with Hand Weapons painted by Ben MacIntyre of Brush Demon

The Pledge Levels

To keep things straightforwards we have gone for the same pledge levels as last time, these are:

The Baron - £1+

The 'pick n mix' pledge level, choose your packs and pledge their total value

This is the basic pledge level for this campaign. You get to choose the packs you want in white metal, then add up the total and pledge for that amount. You can choose one pack, two packs, ten packs - as many as you like!

If you pledge for a least one pack you will receive a printed copy of the A5 Barons' War alpha rules.

Check the graphic below for details on how to change your pledge amount.

The Baron's pledge will work the same as last time

The Rebel - £140+ (once again limited to 30)

Love The Barons' War miniatures, but prefer them in resin over metal?

With this pledge level, you will receive all 10 of the initial launch packs in high-detail resin, pulled from our master mould. You will receive the following packs: Crossbowmen 1, Crossbowmen 2, Crossbowmen 3, Levy 1, Levy 2, Foot Knights with 2H Weapons 1, Foot Sergeants 1, Mounted Sergeants with Hand Weapons 1, Mounted Sergeants with Hand Weapons 2 and Mounted Knights with Hand Weapons 1.

You also receive a printed copy of the A5 Barons' War alpha rules.

King John & Prince Louis - £450+ (once again limited)

Want to put yourself in the heart of the battle?

Master Sculptor Paul Hicks has volunteered to sculpt a unique character based on you! If you select this pledge level you will work directly with Paul to have a unique character sculpted. You will receive the "green" and become the owner of the reproduction rights too!

In addition, you will receive all 10 of the packs in white metal. These are: Crossbowmen 1, Crossbowmen 2, Crossbowmen 3, Levy 1, Levy 2, Foot Knights with 2H Weapons 1, Foot Sergeants 1, Mounted Sergeants with Hand Weapons 1, Mounted Sergeants with Hand Weapons 2 and Mounted Knights with Hand Weapons 1.

You will also receive a printed copy of the A5 Barons' War alpha rules.

Both King John & Prince Louis pledges will be limited to three of each, we have included an extra one to each pledge due to the demand and disappointment last time.

Finally, this time around we have also included a new pledge, The Retinue.  This consists of one of each of the initial packs in white metal which strangely enough makes up a decent sized retinue in the rules we are giving away (it's almost like we planned it!):

The Retinue - £70+

Love The Barons' War miniatures, and want one of each in white metal?

With this pledge level, you will receive all 10 of the initial launch packs in white metal.

You will also receive a printed copy of the A5 Barons' War alpha rules

During the campaign, you will be able to increase any pledge level you have backed to include any other packs that may be unlocked as stretch goals as we go along. Plus, you will have access to all updates and the pledge manager if we are successful.

Campaign Goal

We have set a campaign goal of £6,000 which again is enough to have production moulds made for the initial release.  We also have a bunch of Stretch Goals lined up ready to go something we learned we needed from the previous Barons' War campaign with the first of these being available at £8,000.

Our funding goal is £6,000 and we have a number of stretch goals lined up

If we are successful with the Barons' War 2 campaign we will include banners and decals, spears, polearms & bills and a selection of extra shields in the pledge manager for you to add if you choose.

Please make sure you visit the Barons' War 2 campaign page, click follow, share it about, tell your friends and get ready to go live with us on Sunday the 26th April 2020.

~Andy and Paul

NB, we want to end by acknowledging the current challenges affecting us all around the world at this time, and the most important thing right now is that we all stay safe. Is it the right time to run a Kickstarter, we don't know the answer to this however we have invested an awful lot not to launch, which is why Paul and I have continued as planned.

Barons' War 2 - Commencing on Sunday 26th April, 2020
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Apr 12, 2020 at 09:11:51 PM

The success of our first Barons' War project has encouraged Paul and me to come to Kickstarter a second time with even more medieval miniatures to further this range.

The Barons' War 2 campaign will again be a quick one, running just two weeks from April the 26th to May the 10th, 2020. Most of the miniatures are already sculpted, so we expect a well-managed turnaround for fulfilment on this, our second crowdfunding campaign. The miniatures will be cast, packed and shipped by Footsore Miniatures & Games, so you'll receive their usual excellent quality and great service.

Getting ready for the pack photos

This time around we will be bringing both miniatures that were unanimously requested during the exit survey which are crossbowmen, sergeants and levy, alongside others we wanted to include such as mounted knights with hand weapons and foot knights with two-handed weapons.

We have also prepared a number of fabulous stretch goals, it wouldn't be a Kickstarter without them and these include further packs as well as named characters from the period - we will be revealing more about this during the run-up to launch.  You can follow along on my Facebook page.

The 'Kneeling Knight' is a good example of the character we have gone for

We will also be offering the King John and Prince Louis pledge levels again, in limited numbers, this is as a result of so many of you requesting their inclusion.

All that is left for me to say for now is please share with your friends and gaming buddies that the Barons' War 2 Kickstarter is going live on Sunday 26th April 2020 and that it will include a FREE alpha set of the rules for everyone who backs us.

New Barons' War 2 Miniatures, Second Prince Louis Commissioned Sculpt Complete plus other news
almost 4 years ago – Mon, Mar 30, 2020 at 03:50:51 PM

Hello, it has been almost two months since we last sent out an update so today Paul and I wanted to share with you what we have planned for our second Barons' War Kickstarter as well as show you some of the new sculpts we have ready for this range.  We also have the third of the commissioned sculpts which was part of a Prince Louis pledge to share with you, with the backers blessing of course, which is where we will start.

Prince Louis Commission

As part of the Kickstarter, we had four pledges, two King John and two Prince Louis, where backers could instruct Paul Hicks to sculpt a miniature for them of their choosing.  We showed the first two in our last update, the third of these is shown below where this time the brief was to create a leader for the backer's Barons' War force in his liking.

Second Prince Louis Commission Sculpt completed

This mighty Baron will be mounted on a barded horse and supplied with a selection of heater style shields to choose from to attach to his back, where there is a locater lug.  Once again the backer is really happy with his miniature which makes us very keen to offer this pledge level during the next Kickstarter.

Barons' War 2

Since our last update, eight weeks ago, Paul and I have continued to work diligently preparing for the release of our second Kickstarter.  The aim this time is to offer the key troop types which we weren't able to release the first time around - we have crossbowmen, sergeants and knights with hand weapons for example.

Mounted Knights with hand weapons
Foot Knights with two-handed weapons
Crossbowmen 1
Crossbowmen 2
Crossbowmen 3
Foot Sergeants with hand weapons
Levy with mixed weapons 1
Levy with mixed weapons 2

Further sculpts have been planned including mounted sergeants and characters, we are hoping to be able to show these to you soon when completed.

Barons' War Alpha Rules

While Paul has been very busy sculpting, I have been keeping out of mischief by preparing and playtesting a set of rules that we will make available during the next Kickstarter.

Cover for the Barons' War Alpha ruleset, designed by Steve Beckett

Everyone who backs the Barons' War 2 Kickstarter will receive a free set of the Alpha rules with the idea for backers to start planning and playing with their retinues as well as being able to join in with playtesting if they choose.

We appreciate there are other sets of rules available for using this range of miniatures, and we encourage you to do this. However, just like Feudal Japan (Test of Honour) and more recently Ancient Greece (Mortal Gods), I have a great fondness for the medieval period which started by playing the hex-based game Cry Havoc as a boy. Being able to create a set of skirmish rules for the medieval period is something I have always wanted to do so, I hope you enjoy them as much as the miniatures.

To conclude Paul and I are still gearing up for the second Barons War Kickstarter to go live next month. We appreciate we are living in difficult times at the moment and will consider this before we launch, however, we are really keen to launch.

~Andy
